Who we are

The Scarlet Coder (“we,” “us,” “our”) is an independent software developer based in Washington State, United States. This policy explains how we handle information across our website at thescarletcoder.com and our games and apps (collectively, the “Services”).

We build small, honest games and tools. We collect as little as possible and do not sell your information.

1. Information we collect

Our website (thescarletcoder.com)

  • Contact information you provide voluntarily — if you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
  • Basic server logs standard to web hosting (IP address, browser type). We do not currently run third-party analytics.

Our mobile games

Just Sudoku has no network permission and transmits no data whatsoever. All game progress (puzzles solved, times, streaks, settings) is stored locally on your device only. Nothing leaves your phone.

Our apps

Scarlet Keys is a keyboard with no network permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. Your settings stay on your device. If you turn on “Learn my words” (off by default), it keeps the single words you type so it stops correcting them, encrypted on your device, and it never learns from password or other private fields. “Forget learned words” deletes them.

Scarlet Lyrics shows lyrics for the music you are playing.

  • What it reads: Android’s notification access lets it see the current song’s title, artist and playback position. It does not read the content of your notifications.
  • What it sends: to find lyrics, it sends the song’s title, artist, album and length to LRCLIB (lrclib.net), a free, open lyrics library. That is the only place it connects to. As with any website, LRCLIB also receives your IP address.
  • What it keeps: fetched lyrics are cached on your device (with each song’s title and artist), and you can clear them in Settings. Listening history is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, your Library records which songs you played, when and for how long, plus any notes, favorites and bookmarks you add, in an encrypted database on your device. It never records which app played the song, your location, or any lyrics.
  • What leaves your device: nothing from your Library, unless you export it or make a passphrase-protected backup, and then it goes only where you choose to save or share it. Android’s own cloud backup is switched off for Scarlet Lyrics.

Future games and apps may have different data practices. If so, this policy will be updated before they ship.

3. Third-party services

Our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Our Android games are distributed through Google Play. Scarlet Keys and Scarlet Lyrics are downloaded from GitHub. Scarlet Lyrics looks up lyrics from LRCLIB (lrclib.net). These providers operate under their own privacy policies; we do not control what they log. We do not run advertising networks or third-party analytics.

4. Children’s privacy

Our games and apps, including Just Sudoku, are intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. None of our games or apps send data to us, so there is no collection on our side regardless of age.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only when required by law, to protect our rights or safety, or in connection with a transfer of the brand or business (with notice where required).

6. Data retention

We keep email correspondence only as long as needed. You can ask us to delete it — see Contact below.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information about you. To make a request, email info@thescarletcoder.com.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. International users

We are based in the United States. Because our games and apps keep data on your device and do not transmit it to us, we do not perform international transfers of your personal data. Scarlet Lyrics’ lyric lookups go to LRCLIB’s servers, wherever they are hosted. Website hosting via Cloudflare may involve servers in various locations.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted on this page.
